Travel Component Information

Mission Statement:

The Travel Component is a new addition to EPWBA. This part of our league is for our advanced players who are dedicated to concentrated development and looking for the opportunity to play against advanced competition. Travel Basketball is not for everyone and is only available by invitation only after skill evaluations are completed, for families who choose to be in consideration for this program.

Background:

We are looking to offer up to 2 teams with both the 6th- 8th Graders Boys and Girls. Teams will form around early October in preparation for the FCYBL season. Once FCYBL season is complete, players on team have first right refusal to continue with team through the end of July. If any slots open up, there will be a tryout in March to fill in the remaining slots. In addition to the FCYBL season, teams will be expected to participate in 8 tournaments between April - July. EPWBA is a registered organization with the National Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). Any participates with our travel component must also register as a national member.

Details:

  • Players who participate must first register with our recreational program. Registration Starts on September 1st
  • Cost: $195 (Covers All Expenses from October - March), $455 (A Flat Fee for March - July)

How it Works:

Coach Selection

  • Coaches for the Select Teams will be handpicked by the EPWBA Board of Directors
  • Coaches can submit resumes to the League for review
    • Coaches will require USA Basketball certification
    • Coaches are required to commit to EPWBA only; must sign a Statement of Understanding
    • Practices, at a minimum, will be held twice per week
    • Coaches will coach teams assigned to play in the Fairfax County Youth Basketball
      League (FCYBL)
    • Must be available to coach at least 6 of 8 planned tournaments for the summer travel
      tournament season

Player Selection

  • All registered players for EPWBA will be evaluated through the Fall sessions
    • All players will be evaluated by the EPWBA Select coaches
    • Players will be tiered by skill level (Tier 1, 2, 3, and 4)
      • Tier 1 and 2 players will be considered for EPWBA Select
      • Players ultimately selected for EPWBA Select will participate in FCYBL
      • Tiers 2, 3, and 4 will be selected for EPWBA recreational play
    • EPWBA Select Players and Parents must sign a Statement of Understanding and commit for the
      summer program
      • Parents must also submit a tournament availability form at the beginning of the summer
        program
      • Misconduct, bullying, etc. are all grounds for dismissal
      • Players must commit to the practice schedule and game schedule during the FCYBL to be
        considered for the summer program
      • During the summer program, players must commit to a minimum of 6 planned
        tournaments
